Kris Berry (born Curaçao, 1982) is a Carribean R&B, and Latin jazz singer. Her Debut album ‘Marbles’ was released on April 12, 2012.
Kris Berry named her album after these glittering droplets, because ‘Marbles’ stand for what emerges from her mind; her twists, confessions, experiences and sensations, her marbles!
Kris grew up on the Antillean Islands where she absorbed a lot of country, Latin, ska, jazz and Cuban music. In 2011 Kris released her first 5 track EP, and got elected Soul & Jazz talent by Durch radio station, Radio 6.
The highlight in her musical career so far is her performance at the 2011 Dutch North Sea Jazz Festival.
Writing her songs and lyrics, Kris is working close together with guitarist and producer Paul Willemsen (Beans & Fatback and Lefties Soul Connection).
Her debut album ‘Marbles’ is mixed by Jerry Boys, who previously worked with the Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo, REM and Ry Cooder. That's some pedigree!
For some reason I can't put my finger on Kris takes me back to the sixties.
Give her a listen and see if you agree.
Maybe it's the band sounding a lot like the Blue Flames?
