Now here's an album I'm really gagging to hear. It don't come out until October, but I'm telling you now keep a look out for it. The album is called Beyond The Sun. If there is any one current artist who was made to sing the Sun catalog it has to be Chris Isaak. He's the closest thing we have to a rock n' roller from the good old days. He has the bona fide voice of most of the singers who graced the Sun Studios, and many other studios around the mid to late 50's. He is equally at home singing Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee and even Roy Orbison. All that plus he's a real nice guy.
Chris Isaak live at the Meadow Brook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, Michigan. August 11, 2011.
Chris previews a track from his upcoming release "Beyond the Sun". Miss Pearl was originally recorded by Jimmy Wages on the Sun Record Company.
Here's a phone video of Chris jammimg in Sun Studios from Memphis Vic, who must have been lucky enough to be there.

OK, first up this is not that Joe Walsh of The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get fame, and it sure as hell ain't Joe Walsh, Tea Party darling.
Nope this Joe Walsh is an amazing banjo playing genius. If you like bluegrass or American you will love this Joe Walsh.
Now I love this first track, sounds a bit like "Willie and the hand jive", but that's OK. Hand Jive was stolen from most all of Bo Diddley's tunes anyway. So maybe it's just a Diddley beat.
Ain't No One Like You / Sully's Little Favorite
Song appears on Joe Walsh's album , "Sweet Loam." Joe Walsh and the Stowaways at The FINCH Coffeehouse in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on January 21, 2011. The band members: Joe Walsh, mandolin, Erica Brown, fiddle, Matt Shipman, guitar, Steve Roy, bass, Ron Cody, banjo.
When a tune has "Breakdown" in the title you know you are in for a fast, enjoyable ride.

From Joe Walsh's CD "Sweet Loam" release at One Longfellow Square.
Joe Walsh (mandolin), Darol Anger (fiddle) Johnathan Edwards (harmony vocals) Karl Doty (bass) and Owen Marshall (guitar)
Now I've teased your appetite, check out the album right here, then I know you'll be rushing over to get it.
Sweet Loam is mandolinist Joe Walsh's second solo record, and is the product of several years worth of composing, playing, gigging and traveling within the greater bluegrass and folk community. Featuring some of the finest acoustic musicians found anywhere, including the Gibson Brothers (with whom Joe plays mandolin full time) and Darol Anger, the record is an eleven course musical menu of tastefulness. Made up of new tunes composed for the session, songs reimagined for this setting, and all around inspired playing, Sweet Loam is an exceptionally listenable record.

I read a review on AltSounds that in part said:
Jack Roberts has drawn comparison to heavyweights Tom Waits, Barry Adamson and Leonard Cohen with his growling vocals and powerful songwriting. Liverpool’s musical maverick is back with jaunty anthem 'Heart Attack' - the lead-single taken from his anticipated second studio album ‘The Romance, The Row, The Wreck’ due in winter 2011 on rising London indie label Tip Top Recordings. That was intriguing enough to give him a listen (Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen in the same breath?)and I'm glad I did. I'll be hunting for this new album to be released.
Jack Roberts’ music combines filmic epics, raucous punk and a subtle folk and blues sound. Making his mark in the Merseyside band scene Jack Roberts signed to Sony to produce his debut 1994 LP ‘Longer On A Message’. The acclaimed album featured singles Radio, Taxi and Any Day Now – songs that proved hits at Jack’s Glastonbury appearance on the Acoustic Stage and led to tour support slots with the likes of Crash Test Dummies, Robyn Hitchcock, Jah Wobble, Tragically Hip, Jeff Healey, The Christians, Thomas Lang and Horse before playing The Royal Albert Hall and Echo Arena (where he performed the Beatles classic ‘Ticket to Ride’ to 10,000 people). [AltSounds]
Meanwhile check out this first single from it. Totally amazing.

Add together bits of Johnny Cash, David Ford and The Tallest Man on Earth and you get Morgan Cameron Ross. From the fiery unapologetic song writing of these three and the raw power of their vocals Morgan Cameron Ross seems like a combination winner who inherited this power.
Since one is from the USA, one from England and one from Sweden then to come together in a Canadian is not impossible.
Enough of that, you just have to listen to this guy to appreciate the power of his singer / songwriter id.
First up the un-censored version of the video of this great song. If you are adverse to un-censored versions you can watch the censored all American version here.

Today we have an amazing band. Future Islands are a Post-Wave band based in Baltimore, Maryland. The band is composed of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards & programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic & electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (words & voices). Future Islands formed in January 2006 in Greenville, NC.
Samuel T. Herring has to have one of the more distinctive voices I've heard in a while.
An enigmatic video and a beautiful wistful tune.

Here's a live cut on KCRW, it highlights the amazing voice of Samuel T. Herring.

I'm hearing this and I'm thinking The Band. And that's a good thing, these guys have some classy sounds.
J. David Smith and Chad Walls met while working as gallery attendants at the Dallas museum of Art, finding common ground in music, politics and art, they struck a partnership based on a similar vision of a musical and artistic collective where multiple artists could work together to achieve the singular visions of individuals within the group. The Lonely Places shouldn't be lonely too long. They have a great future based on what I'm listening to now.

Alexandra Stan is a hot young lady from Constanța, Romania. She is hot in more ways than seventeen. I'm really liking the sound of Mr Saxobeat.
"Mr. Saxobeat" is a single by Romanian recording artist Alexandra Stan, released in 2011. The song was a success in Romania, remaining at number one on the Romanian Top 100 for eight consecutive weeks, being the longest-running #1 in Romania in the 2010s. The song is Stan's third single from her upcoming debut album. The song has become her most successful single to date and her first to chart outside of Romania. "Mr. Saxobeat" is an up-tempo eurodance song with house elements. The song contains a love message, where Stan speaks of a man she is attracted to and the way he makes her move. The music video shows Stan being arrested, thrown in jail, and seducing a guard to escape. It was shot in MediaPro Studios, Buftea, next to Bucharest. The song has charted in many countries across Europe including a number-one status for many weeks in the Italian Singles Chart, in Denmark and in Slovakia and within the top ten in other sixteen counties. This includes a peak of number-three in the United Kingdom, the highest charting record by a Romanian artist in the UK. Outside Europe, the song peaked at number twenty-five in the Canadian Hot 100, at number-thirteen inside the US Latin Pop Songs and right on the top of the US Hot Dance Airplay Chart, being the third Romanian act to do so, after Inna and Edward Maya. It is also a current hit in Latin America.

Cheyenne Marie Mize is warm wonderful music.
Violin, Guitar, vocals she does it all.
Cheyenne Marie Mize is from Louisville, Kentucky but she's not a country singer per se. More a folk / rock chanteuse.
She has recorded with Bonnie "Prince" Billy.
Cheyenne Marie Mize is a talent you can expect to hear a lot of in the near future.
Just to think I got thrown out of violin class for doing what she is doing here. The plucking that is. Teacher did not appreciate me tuning up his violin to sound like a banjo. Oh well, just had to change my career choice.

And I really like her version of this great song.

HaBanot Nechama is made up of three beautiful, experienced singers, Karolina , Dana Adini and Yael Deckelbaum. Habanot Nechama is a live band in the deepest sense, having built a huge and very dedicated following before ever releasing even one single.
No one could possibly have predicted the enormous success HaBanot Nechama found with their eponymous debut album. The August 2007 release went gold after only three weeks, and platinum immediately afterwards. All concerts on the first Israeli tour were quickly sold-out with an unprecedented demand by European summer festivals.
The girls received great media exposure, topping the radio charts for several weeks, and eventually receiving a nomination for the "Best New Act" award at the Israeli Music Channel Annual Awards. And was named “Act of the Year” in DJ Ha'ir magazine. Reggae influences, soul-folk melodies, one of a kind harmonies and impeccable song-craft are highlights of this perfect showcase of how English and Hebrew can co-exist.
Even though I don't understand the songs that they sing in Hebrew I really find this group enjoyable, because they appear to have a joy in what they are doing.
Kick back and enjoy the ride.

Dreamers of the Ghetto are:
Luke Jones - Vocals, Bass, Synth
Jonathan Jones - Guitar, Vocals, Synth, Beats
Lauren Jones - Synth, Vocals
Marty Sprowles - Drums, Thunder and Lightning
Dreamers of the Ghetto marries the sentiment of classic 80s film soundtracks to minimalist, romantic dream-rock, creating a unique environment that becomes almost instantly addicting. The triumphant, reach-for-the-stars attitude of veterans like U2 and Depeche Mode is paired with the gospel splendor of Spiritualized and ominous austerity of The xx, all carried by what Shaking Through calls “the most amazing singer we’ve seen since Sharon Van Etten." DOTG have mined a sound that is both timeless and nostalgic, and they've done so with an earnest fearlessness and refreshing lack of irony. They are true, pure, and unbelievably powerful.
Only playing a handful of live shows outside of Bloomington to date, Dreamers of the Ghetto were handpicked to play as main support to The Flaming Lips and Superchunk at Raleigh’s Hopscotch Music Festival on September 10. After listening to Enemy/Lover Grayson Currin of Pitchfork and Hopscotch Music Festival says, “it sounds like the start of something major.”
I'm really digging their first single, Tether.

Dreamers of the Ghetto - Tether by INDIGENOUSPromotions
Live At The Bishop
Dreamers of the Ghetto are a family band from Bloomington, IN. Built of brothers Luke and Jonathan Jones, Luke's wife Lauren Jones, and Marty Sprowles, they are intensely sincere and passionate, unafraid of wild musical pursuits, and armed only with the kind of inspired influence that comes from a family that stays together and plays together. Theirs is a music that seeks to bridge the now and then, and then catapult the combination of the two towards the stars.
Take a really powerful voice and some striking lyrics and what do you have?

Waves & The Both Of Us (Acoustic)
Done, Done, Done
Live performance of Done from her new EP. Filmed at Rockwood Music Hall, NYC, 8/8/2011
Jessica Charlotte Poland, also known as “Charlotte Sometimes” is a female singer-songwriter originating from New Jersey, United States, Her first release, an eponymous 3 song EP released on March 18, 2008 featured the breakout track “How I Could Just Kill a Man”, also included on her début album, Waves And The Both Of Us released on 6 May, 2008.
On May 14th 2010 Charlotte independently released an EP entitled “Sideways”, which was digitally released online for free.
Before becoming a pop singer, Charlotte was involved in dance for 13 years until her early teens when she finished her involvement with the art due to pressures on being thin, “ditching her leotard for a guitar”; citing that she would much rather create her own art than portray that of someone else.
Although her name itself bears resemblance to The Cure’s song of the same name, it is in actuality based on the 1969 children’s novel of the same name written by Penelope Farmer, which portrays a young girl named Charlotte who exchanges places in time with another girl from 1918. The conceit of the story being they must find how to live each other’s lives whilst remaining undiscovered in that time. The reason for Charlotte choosing the name aside from the book was that it represents the struggle with her self-perception and perception by others.

Nouvelle Vague, New Wave and Bossa Nova: three things that - in their respective languages - all mean exactly the same thing. Three passions that Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux have been attempting - since 2004 - to marry together via their Nouvelle Vague project. The ingredients? The swooping elegance of Bossa Nova, the melancholic melodies of New Wave and the distanced approach of the films of the Nouvelle Vague.
The group’s modus operandi is as follows: transpose classic songs and help people to (re)discover obscure (or not) new wave tracks with a fresh take, decidedly modern. The art of recording cover versions is a delicate one, but the group’s reinterpretations of “Guns of Brixton”, “Dance With Me” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart” have been heard around the world.
700,000 albums sold, hundreds of concerts sold out all over the globe and female singers that give the live shows a real boost ; the originality of Camille, the elegance of Mélanie Pain, the sensuality of Phoebe Killdeer and the onstage craziness of Nadeah Miranda have moved the crowds wherever they sing. This chic aestheticism is added to by Helena Noguerra and Mareva Galanter, who now accompany the group during their concerts.
It's been almost three years since Grace Jones graced these pages. Too long a wait.
But the great news currently Grace is finally releasing her first album in 22 years in the States. The album is Hurricane (good timing with Irene doing her thing today) which was released elsewhere a few years ago. But the good newsfor those of us who have the original album is there is a second album with it. The dub set.
Hurricane (Paul Heron & Alan X dub)
Well Well Well Dub
Williams Blood (Yam Who's Electric Dub)
This I'm guessing is about a year ago on a European TV channel.
Le vie en rose
Still performing well on the classics.

St. Vincent is Annie Clark.
Two years ago, Annie Clark’s recorded debut as St. Vincent, ‘Marry Me’, gave mmediate notice that a dizzying new talent had emerged from the flatlands of Texas. Critics from all points of the cultural compass—from Pitchfork to Spin to the New York Times Magazine—were entranced by the album’s precocious arrangements and elegant lyrics, and the steadily growing crowds at St. Vincent’s live shows were astonished by Clark’s gargantuan musical chops and her magnetic stage presence. No small number of St. Vincent fans took the title of ‘Marry Me’ literally, had their hearts duly broken, and wouldn’t have had it any other way. The record was heralded as a remarkably successful entrance and Clark capped a year of international touring by winning the Plug Awards’ Female Artist of the Year.I just loved that first album, and now this new one sounds to be even better - from what I've heard so far. Personally can't wait.
The first video from "Strange Mercy", out Sept 12 (UK)/13 (US)
Annie Clark's St. Vincent perform at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This clip is for the song "Surgeon", of her last album 'Strange Mercy' (Expected Sept. 13, 2011).
Due to bitch-ass Irene (the huricane... or more like its effects), a show that was supposed to be in the roof of the museum..., ended up being indoors. The place? "The Egyptian Temple of Dendur" (look it up). It could have not been better. =^]. The Met's Spectrum (especial events) and SPIN Magazine sponsored. Annie..? Superb. ♥_♥
Here's a great track from a few years back. It is a video by the ever dependable La Blogotheque, from the series of Take Away Shows.
Paris Is Burning
And finally how about something really intense? Just dig it.
Kerosene - Big Black cover
Do you remember Cat's Eyes, they did that amazing song at the Vatican? Well they are back with a new single and a new album. I haven't heard the album yet, but both sides of the single are awesome.
I just loved this song, and the video. This is the new single.
This is a really great version of a beautiful song. And this is the B side.
The Crying Game
I just found this brand new video from experimental pop troupe Little Tybee and it is really cool. The song, "Hearing Blue", is a re-recording of a song from a previous album, but with a hell of a lot more instrumentation, courtesy of the well-renowned recording studio, Doppler Studios, who has recorded everyone from Kanye West, B-52s, and Beyonce to Jimmy Buffett, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam. The re-recording will be released via Paper Garden Records soon as their new single.
Little Tybee are from Atlanta Georgia and they are made up of: Brock Scott, Josh Martin, Nirvana Kelly, Ryan Donald, and Pat Brooks.
Updated 12.12.2011 for the usual reasons.
“Little Tybee is something of a mini orchestra with its ever-evolving five to ten members all engaged in intricate musicianship. Their name comes from a tiny island off the coast of their native Georgia, where legend has it, an undetonated atomic bomb from the 1950s lies missing. They jokingly attribute the quirkiness of their debut album Building a Bomb to the long-term effects of eating radiation-drenched seafood, but it’s more likely they were just born that way”
-Lavinia Jones Wright, ASCAP
This is from their previous album.
Here's more music from them.
