I'm not saying the last place I expected to find a Gypsy Punk/Rock band would be Norway, but that is close. Sometimes they stray away from the genre, but whatever they are playing they are worth a listen.
Knekker Deg Til Sist
Break You To Last (rough translation)
Die Polizei
Kaizers Orchestra performing "Die Polizei". This song has, since it was first performed in 2001, occasionally been played at extraordinary concerts. In 2009, the song was recorded for the band's album, "Våre demoner".
The performance took place in Cafeteateret, Oslo, Norway on February 11, 2009.
Sju bøtter tårer er nok, Beatrice
Kaizers Orchestra performing their new, yet unreleased song, "Sju bøtter tårer er nok, Beatrice" (Seven buckets of tears is enough, Beatrice) live at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, Holland on the 15th of January 2010. This recording is made and uploaded by the band itself to give the fans a heads up to what's coming from the Kaizer camp next, the full album is expected early 2011. This is a simple one-camera, one-mic recording so excuse the low budget diy quality, but we reckon it's better than the mobile phone one's that are already out there and interesting for those of you who are into the Kaizer thing :) Alright, enjoy! Kaizers Orchestra is a Norwegian alternative rock group formed on January 1, 2000[1]. The two leading members, vocalist Janove Ottesen and guitarist Geir Zahl, had known each other for years, and first played together in a band called Blod, Snått & Juling in 1989.
Kaizers Orchestra are notable for being among the first non-black metal Norwegian bands or artists singing in their native language to become popular in non-Scandinavian Europe. To other Norwegians, the band is instantly recognizable both because of their unique, unpredictable style, and because of vocalist Ottesen's marked Bryne dialect, shared by four of the other band members.
Musically, Kaizers Orchestra have explored many different genres of music, the most prominent being fast-paced gypsy rock and "Balkan brass". They are regarded as one of Europe's best live acts, with their 2002 Performance at Roskilde earning them several "Concert of the Year" awards, as well as "Concert of Roskilde 2002".
For the most part, lyrics and music is written by Janove Ottesen, although Geir Zahl has also contributed many compositions. Geir also performs vocals on his compositions at live shows (exceptions being "Papa har lov" from Maestro and "Våre demoner" from Våre demoner, both of which are sung by Janove). The lyrics often contain dark themes like mental illness, war and the Mafia. Many of the songs' storylines are intertwined, with recurring characters being explored during the course of several songs. [Wikipedia]
