Arcade Fire

[Wikipedia] Arcade Fire is an indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec which is based around the husband and wife duo of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne. In 2004, their first full-length album Funeral was recorded. The group uses of a large number of musical instruments in addition to mainstays rock instruments of guitar, drums, and bass guitar, such as bowed string instruments, accordion, various brass and harp.

I watched their Austin City Limits concert over the weekend. They are a really happening band.
Don't know where they get the energy from.

Melody Gardot is an American musician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was disabled at 19, after being struck by a car while atop her bicycle. This event, though tragic, led to her recognition as a remarkable musician.
Her musical beginning was prompted by a tending physician who was concerned with her cognitive impairment as a result of head injury sustained in the accident. He believed music would help her brain injury drastically improve, as it has been known to show remarkable results in improving people's cognitive ability after such trauma. It helps by rebuilding the pathways within the brain which are necessary for recalling data. (Specifically in the areas of Memory, Calculating Data, Executive Functioning Skills, etc.) [Wikipedia].


This young lady has an old soul, her music is deeply moving and reminiscent of the 40's. Give her a listen and you won't regret it.

A SAVAGE fish more terrifying than a piranha has been caught in Britain for the first time — sparking fears of a deadly invasion.
The vicious giant snakehead EATS everything it comes across and has even been reported to KILL people.
It looks like it has been hit with the ugly stick a few times too many.
The monster — from south-east Asia — has a mouth crammed with fearsome teeth, can “crawl” on land and survive out of water for up to four days.
News that a 2ft specimen had been hooked in an English river caused widespread panic among anglers and conservationists. The river was in Lincolnshire.
It's in The Sun , so you know it's really a problem.

Eumir Deodato

Friday is always a good day to feature some music.
Earlier this week I stumbled across a site where I found some Deodato music.
I was immediately taken back to the 70's !!!
My vinyl copies have long ago worn out, and I'm not so sure the old CD's haven't expired as well.
So I have been listening to some of the MP3's.
I never realized before Eumir Deodato was born the same year as me.
Separated by oceans and four months.
Takes me back!! So then I figured there has to be some videos on YouTube.
And there was, and some of it wonderful concert appearances.

Sam Sparro - Black and Gold

Check out Sam Sparro, he is a 24 year old offering up a delicious mix of funk, soul, electro and dance in the shape of 'Black and Gold' (out March 31st). This record is already making this LA-based internationalist white-hot property for 2008. Big news on the West Coast underground, Sam's unique style, vocal talent, eclectic sound and savvy lyrics have been creating a lot of interest. He is popular in the UK.

More truth

As a follow up to my Truth will out piece from yesterday. Someone in the office asked me if they were the true beliefs. From what I had read in an excellent article in Radar magazine it would appear to be so. Then I stumbled on this piece of video, a couple of years old but with my favorite news hound Keith Olbermann and his guest Dr. Dave Touretzky. I was lucky I wasn't drinking something when the Doctor was asked if Tom would know more than Katie because he was so much higher in the "church" than she, and the good Doctor said that Tom knew more than her, but not much more than anyone who watched South Park.
As to truth, if there is any "news" commentator I would trust, Keith Olbermann is about the only one on TV in the USA that comes even close to having integrity.

Forget Zorba

Forget Zorba's dance, did you know that Laurel and Hardy were Greeks.
Here they perform the original dance that was made famous by Alan Bates and Anthony Quinn in Zorba the Greek.
Zorba the Greek is a 1964 film based on the novel Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. The film was directed by Michael Cacoyannis and the title character was played by Anthony Quinn–who was not Greek but in fact Irish Mexican. The supporting cast included Alan Bates as a visiting Englishman.
The theme, "Sirtaki" by Mikis Theodorakis, has become famous and popular as a song and as a dance (especially at parties).
And Laurel and Hardy never got any credit for it.
That is so wrong.
The dance is actually the Karagouna.




In case you don't remember Zorba, or never saw it (shame on you) then here is the dance as performed by Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates.

Suddenly Last Supper

You have to check out this site, Suddenly Last Supper, they have multiple versions of Leonardo da Vinci's 15th century depiction of Jesus announcing that one of his 12 disciples would betray him.
So many parodies, tributes and caricatures.
My personal favorite here is the Sopranos Last Supper, but whatever you do don't miss the Scientologist's Last Supper.
The main one that is not there, but is linked, is the Folsom Street Fair one that caused so much controversy around here when it was first published. I guess it also pissed off The Catholic League and Concerned Women for America, what's the downside to that?

The best version of Billie Jean - evah!

Last night David Cook performed Billie Jean on American Idol.
It was a righteous performance.
This has to be the best version of this song I have ever heard.
Terrific arrangement, terrific vocals.
He could be the winner, if they could only stop the 12 year old girls voting for the other David.

The 1964 Peel P50 is 54" long and 41" wide, watching Jeremy who is 6' 5" just getting into it is a bust.

It is their first album of new stuff since 1992. Boy, has it been that long?
It just has to be heard, they are as good as ever.

A really cool Flickr search tool, all of the found thumbnails can be clicked upon to display the full photo. This search was based on the word "music". It also has a safe search mode to keep the innocent innocent. And of course if you are a Flickr user, why wouldn't you be?, you can search on your own tags.




Or if you just want a clock this site will allow you to build a clock from Flickr images, again you an enter key words or tags to get the kind of photo's you want. This was done with the key words "music" and "movies".

I saw the stage version at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco in November 2000, and truly enjoyed every moment of it. Louise Pitre was the star of that version, she played Donna. If Abba is a guilty pleasure, I'm guilty. Though back in the beginning I wasn't, I happened to be in Stockholm when Abba won the European Song Contest with "Waterloo" back in 1974 and everywhere you went there were groups of girls singing it at the top of their lungs, on buses, trains, planes. I hated that song. But I pretty much have loved the rest of their songbook.
The cast for the movie looks to be interesting at the very least.

If you are in the PC crew you will probably not get a laugh out of this.

King Louis of France (Mel Brooks actually) is having a great time at his palace. Surrounded by the beautiful ladies of the court whom he frequently grabs, he regularly remarks straight into the camera "it's good to be the king".

I can't even begin to imagine how long it took to make this, with running everybody else backwards and adding the main actors moving normally. Plus the few who interact with the forward moving couple.
Brilliant.

The 5 minute film tells the story of a couple who spot each other across a crowded street and fall in love. Although everyone else in the world around them moves backwards, the couple moves forward as they find each other.

Can't get no Satisfaction

If you watched the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies last week then you will certainly remember this clip. It was an historic clip from 1988.
Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and wife Patty, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, Jeff Lynne, Max Weinberg at least one Beach Boy and one of the better Supremes.
It was on January 20, 1988 - The 3rd annual Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony took place with The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Drifters, Bob Dylan and the Supremes as inductees.
This clip is not the greatest video quality, but any duet with Mick Jagger and The Boss has to be worth a look and listen.

Pontiac G8

Spy Hunter is a 1983 arcade game developed and released by Bally Midway. It was incredibly successful initially, and it has remained popular for many years. The game's novel gameplay and addictive theme music are largely responsible for its success. It has also been ported to various home computers and video game systems.
As a cabinet-style arcade game, Spy Hunter was produced in both sit-down and standard upright versions with the latter being more common. The game's controls consist of a steering wheel with several special-purpose buttons, a two-position stick shift (offering 'low' and 'high' gears), and a pedal used for acceleration. It is a single player game.
It is an action/driving game with the player in the role of a spy driving an armed sportscar. The object of the game is to travel the freeway destroying as many enemy vehicles as possible while protecting civilian vehicles. The game is a top-down vertical scroller with a vantage point similar to that of a news helicopter.
This Pontiac commercial is largely inspired by the aforementioned game. In the Pontiac spot, the mission is the same, with the G8 starring as the hero car.

Friday is music day again. I just found another wonderful music talent I was unaware of. But that is my bad. After all I have seen the movie "Once upon a time in Mexico" and it is one of my favorites, and the music is terrific in it. So check out Patricia Vonne, I love the name, my mothers name was Patricia.

A mini bio: A native of San Antonio, Texas. Moved to New York City in 1990-2001 pursuing her artistic ambitions. Worked extensively in Europe and America and was featured in national / international commercials, and film work. Formed her own musical band, performed the NY circuit from 98-2001 before relocating to her native Texas where she currently tours extensively in US, Mexico and Europe. Toured as a member of Tito and Tarantula in 2002 (band featured in the film "From Dusk Till Dawn"). Her song, "Traeme Paz", was featured in the film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".
She is the sister of Angela Lanza and Marcel and Robert Rodriguez.

The Technical Hitch

On YouTube sometimes you find the greatest things, this is one of them a short film by Jon Dunleavy.

The Technical Hitch is a satirical take on technological failures starring Tikuf, the atomic anomaly.

With a stinging narration of rhyming couplets read by acting legend Robert Lindsay, The Technical Hitch reveals the secret menace of modern society; for in Tikuf's world, everything that can go wrong will go wrong!

Robert Lindsay is maybe best known for the BBC TV series My Family. He enjoyed a successful stage career, especially during the 1980s both in the West End and on Broadway. He has appeared in many TV productions in the UK.

Old Cars

This clip of old American cars with music by Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper was added as a video reply to one of my earlier Buddy Holly video posts on You Tube. I really liked this, it is kind of sad to see the condition of some of these vehicles. If they had been out here in California for their whole life they may have been better preserved. Not the crashed one's of course. I have lived out here 12 years and am so impressed with the pristine condition of so many old cars.

Golden Death Music

This track "Hopeless" was another recent suggestion on Last FM. I'm beginning to realize there is a boatload of undiscovered talent out there, many of these musicians being as good as if not better than many that are actually making money.
From what I have been able to work out Golden Death Music is a solo project from a young man in Canada.
I really like this track, and some of the others I have listened to so far.
I wish him all the best of good luck in his future.
And keep up the good sounds man.

Food Court Musical

Here singing that great musical number "Can I get a napkin, please" from ImprovEverywhere, sixteen agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. Using wireless microphones and the mall's PA system, both their voices and the music was amplified throughout the food court. All cameras were hidden behind two-way mirrors and other concealed structures.

Jeremy Clarkson does his level best to destroy a Toyota Pickup.


He drives it down a load of stairs, bumps it into brick walls, parks it in the sea, drops a caravan on it, drives through a hut, hits it with a wrecking ball and finally sets fire to it.

A Fine Frenzy

According to Wikipedia: Alison Sudol (born 1985), known professionally as A Fine Frenzy, is an American alternative singer-songwriter and pianist. Her debut album, One Cell in the Sea, was released on July 17, 2007, and peaked at number 91 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Her music has also been featured on numerous television shows, including One Tree Hill, Big Shots, MTV's The Hills and House.

According to me, I really like this song. I guess it didn't get played on any of the radio stations that I listen to.
And of course I never watch any of the aforementioned "numerous television shows".
And on On February 6th 2008, Sudol performed her song Come On, Come Out. on The Late Show with David Letterman. And on February 23rd, 2008, she sang Almost Lover and Come On, Come Out on the CBS Saturday Early Show. And I never watch either of those shows. So un-surprisingly I missed her, but here we go with her video to make up for it.
